Transfers are today but Sister Kovac and I are staying in Yorktown! I'm excited for another 6 weeks here, to see how this area is going to grow and change! It's something I have seen a lot of in the past 2 weeks especially and I just know it is going to change even more this next transfer:)
Some miracles God allowed me to witness this past week...
~Frenchy: Frenchy has been investigating the church for a few years now and we weren't able to meet with her for a long time. So we went over to her house and we had a drop lesson planned because she wasn't progressing... But for some reason we couldn't do it, we set up another lesson with her and a couple nights ago we committed her to baptism! Holy cow I was floating!
~Brother Salinas: His son is getting baptized in November and yesterday we committed him to set a goal to be baptized with his son! It really is just so exciting to see people committing to follow Jesus Christ, I think we forget sometimes how much baptism really means. But it's something I have been trying to understand and something else that happened this week showed me how special it really is...
~Cambria: She is a little girl in our ward and her baptism was this past week and Sister Kovac and I were lucky enough to be able to go. I don't know if being on a mission makes spiritual things stronger or what but that was one of the most spiritual moments on my mission so far! It is unexplainable! But I'm so glad that I got to see it and have the Spirit testify to me again that this really is the true church. How lucky we are to be a part of it!
~Karen: We got a referral a few weeks ago and we stopped by but she wasn't interested, but she said her neighbor might be- so we got really excited and we stopped by. But she wasn't home and we didn't have a name. So we have just been referring to this woman as our "unknown referral" and we have stopped by every time we are in the area. So on Sunday we tried to stop by again and both Sister Kovac and I just felt that this was going to be the day that we would finally get ahold of our unknown referral! So we were kind of disappointed when she didn't answer the door, but we were driving out of the parking lot just as a car was driving in and we just kind of knew that it had to be her. So we hurried and parked on the next street and made our way back and she answered the door... As we talked all she could say was that we had knocked on the right door and that we were just what she needed. I felt so happy that I got to be a part of that, she said we were just what she needed but I feel like she was just what we needed as well!
~Kieran-- We were tracting in an area we don't get to spend a lot of time in since it is so far away and we had picked a street and this first door we knocked was a lady whose uncle had just passed away and she had a son that passed away. So we were able to testify to her that her and her family could be together forever, and it was such a neat experience! Especially after we left her house we both felt like we had done what we needed to do on that street and that it was time to tract a different street... It was a weird feeling but it was really cool to think that we had done what the Lord had wanted us to do there!
Some fun things I was able to do...
*New York pizza-- 1 slice is bigger than my head!! But August 1st is like the Swiss 4th of July and I so conveniently have a Swiss companion... So we got to celebrate!:)
*Had another lunch appointment in Spanish-- This one was fun! Haha, we went over there and I said one sentence in Spanish that I had been practicing... And then they kind of assumed I was fluent! So they went off speaking Spanish and I just did a lot of nodding and laughing, I really hope I reacted correctly!:)
*Put peppermint oil on my head-- I didn't know that this stuff worked on headaches, but holy goodness it feels magical! Don't know why I felt the need to mention that, it just feels really good!
*Tracted around this bad boy...
(The mailbox in the background). It's kind of hilarious because the bottom one says their name and then the rest say junk mail, taxes, bills, and airmail... Again, I don't know why I needed to mention it, it's just funny:)
*I saw a vulture eating some roadkill, that one wasn't very pleasant:P
*We had our transfer meeting today and it was so fun to see all the new missionaries that are where I just was! But sad because my STL Sister Groberg is going home!:(
And some random thoughts I had...
> My hair is getting increasingly bushier every day I spend in this humidity!!!
> I've already been gone almost 2 months... I don't get how that happens!
> A mission is kind of like life-- we are leaving behind everything we knew and we knew that this was going to be HARD! But we wanted to learn and grow and help bring people back to our Heavenly Father, and so we came. And here we are, and it seems like such a long time until you you look at the big picture! And then we get to go home, but everything that we experience here is OURS, we don't forget the things that we did or the experiences we had! So always remember that you did make the choice to come to earth, you knew it was going to be hard! But it's worth it, I promise you that it is worth it. God promises us that it is worth it! And one day when we are done here, we get to go home and we will remember how much we learned and how much we loved our time here.
I'm so grateful that I have the opportunity to serve a mission. I love it and I love who God is helping me to become.
I love you! Have a righteous week!;)
Love, Sister Jones
